So Zavior was defeated, he thought, entering his tent, to find Aegis sitting as still as stone by his bed.
"Hello, friend," he said, walking over and rubbing its neck, to which it responded by rubbing the side of it's face against his arm. "I did well enough today," Joshua said, "Well enough to be proud of." Aegis let out a small squak as seemingly approval.
He said with Aegis for a time, talking and sitting, as they relaxed. When there was no more sun to illuminate the sides of the pavilion, Joshua stood and declared he would go to bed, to which Aegis closed his own eyes and huddled it's wings tight against it's body.
That night, Joshua dreamed of Jeyne. He did not know entirely what his feeling towards her were, but that she would make a fine bride, one that Yohn would no doubt approve of.
When he woke the next morning, Yohn was standing over him, smiling. "Uuuuh, what now?" Joshua complained, tired as ever.
"The melee is in two days time. What's now is we train," Yohn grinned. "I saw you with that young woman, Lady Jeyne Caron. No doubt you'd like to impress her," he teased.
Joshua frowned, and sat up. "Give me a moment," he said. He didn't make it to the training yard till mid day, for he was exhausted, and still suffered from a bad bruise, courtesy of Ser Zavior Caron. Yohn was ready for him in the yard, however, and barely gave him a moment to get comfortable and stretch, before bombarding him with a surprise attack.
Taking the hit to the back of the helm, Joshua stumbled forwards. "What was that for!?" Joshua said, wincing at the pain.
"You let your guard down. In the melee, there will be plenty of men, and that will be like to happen," Yohn explained. "Now c'mon," he said, taunting Joshua. Joshua kept his composure, however, and merely sucked up the pain, and blinked away the water from his eyes. Yohn, instead, started for Joshua, who met him in the middle of the yard. Both men started with a High Guard, and Yohn made his move first, swinging for Joshua's bad shoulder knowingly, though Joshua was ready, as he pushed Yohn's attack back, deflecting the blows as they came from each direction.
Finally, after ducking a swing, Joshua side stepped and planted a hit on Yohn's ribs, making him wince a little, though he did not hinder his movements, coming at Joshua all the same. Avoiding the next few swings with his body, Joshua caught Yohn's shield arm with a sharp blow to the shoulder, no doubt jacking it up. This is how Joshua usually sparred with Yohn. He broke him down little by little.
Yohn, his shield hanging a little lower than it had a moment before, came at Joshua was a side cut, which glanced off Joshua's own sword and skimmed his waist. Leaving no damage now, Joshua knew it would have left a deep gash, were it sharpened. Once again pushing the attack, Joshua looked for a way past Yohn's defenses, but found none, despite his efforts. Keeping at it, Joshua decided he would use a certain move, taught by Yohn himself.
Catching Yohn sword with his own, Joshua twisted his wrist in such a way that made Yohn's sword spin out of control, making it incredibly difficult to hold onto. Yanking his own sword to the side, he pried the sword from Yohn's hands, sending it to the ground. Lifting his sword to point at Yohn, Joshua said, "Yield?"
Yohn lifted his visor, to reveal a smiling face, "Yield indeed. You truly are going to grow into a fine swordsman, Joshua," he complimented. "One the bards will sing about, no doubt."
"Let's not get out of hand, Yohn," Joshua said. "I have far to go before that. Care for another go?"
"Gladly."
